Reeling off the names of the periodicals he has contributed to and the books he has illustrated, would make you gasp for breath: The Times of India, The Economic Times, The Independent, The Daily, The Evening News of India, The Free Press Journal, The Illustrated Weekly of India, Blitz, Money Times, Profit, Nutan Savera, Dharmayug, The Sunday Observer, Amar Ujala, Samkaleen, Filmfare, Fortune India, Tinkle, Marmik, Epd - Entwicklungspolitik (Germany), Reader's Digest, The Humanscape, Science Today, Science Reporter, Wendekreis (Switzerland, Spain & Italy), Rang, Avaz, Kalnirnaya…

After doing his BA in Economics from Bombay University in 1963, Sawant acquired a diploma in commercial art in 1969. And stepped confidently into the world of cartooning. Apart from his career as cartoonist, Sawant wears the twin caps of humour illustrator and journalist with equal ease. He has been the Indian editor of Witty World (USA) since its inception.

Awards and prizes have been plenty. Of these, he cherishes the following three the most: The first prize in the Anti-Vices Cartoon Competition (India) in 1995, the second prize in the International Cartoon Contest organised by Swiss Coalition (Switzerland) the same year, and the third prize in the cartoon competition organised by Epd - Entwicklungspolitik (Germany) in 1997.

Sawant represented India in international cartoon festivals in Budapest (Hungary) in 1990, and in Omiya (Japan) in 1993. His cartoons have been included in international collections and publications from Hungary, Canada, Germany, France, England, USA, Portugal, Iran, Switzerland, Japan, Bangladesh and Mauritius.

Keen on honing young talent, Sawant has conducted cartoon-training classes in Mumbai for the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
